New Olympus OM-D mirrorless camera to be announced this fall

A new Olympus OM-D-series mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with a Micro Four Thirds image sensor is rumored to be introduced at Photokina 2014.

The world’s largest digital imaging event is quickly approaching. The Photokina 2014 show will opens its doors to the public in Cologne, Germany in the middle of September.

In recent times, we have heard that multiple cameras, including compacts, mirrorless, and DSLRs, will be announced at this important event.

There is enough room for many more units to be officialized and it seems like the Photokina will be needing that. According to highly-reliable sources, a brand new Olympus OM-D mirrorless camera will be unveiled at the Photokina 2014.

Olympus is rumored to launch a new OM-D camera at the Photokina 2014. The E-M5 is the model that could be replaced.

When multiple top sources are claiming that a product is coming, then the product in question has a great chance of becoming official. It would be unwise to treat it as a fact, just like it would be reckless to completely ignore such information.

This time, we have heard through the grapevine that Olympus is planning to reveal a new mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. The new shooter will make its way into the OM-D series and will certainly come packed with a Micro Four Thirds image sensor.

The new Olympus OM-D mirrorless camera does not have a specifications list, therefore you will have to stick with us as we will provide more details as soon as we get them.

Olympus E-M5 successor or new camera for a different category of photographers?

The source has not given any names, yet. Moreover, it is unknown whether a current model is getting replaced or a totally new one is coming.

For the time being, the line-up consists of the entry-level E-M10, the mid-range E-M5, and the high-end E-M1.

The OM-D E-M10 was just launched earlier this year, while the OM-D E-M1 is the top model which was released in the fall of 2013, so replacing it would be surprising to say the least.

This means that these two have the fewest chances of being substituted, whereas the E-M5  introduced in February 2012 is the most likely to be replaced. Amazon is selling the OM-D E-M5 for about $600.

Olympus is also rumored to launch a full frame OM-D camera this September

Olympus has been rumored to be developing a mirrorless camera with a full frame sensor in mid-May. The alleged shooter was also believed to be added to the OM-D series and to be launched at the Photokina 2014.

No new details about that device have been leaked in the meantime. However, we should not rule it out for the time being.

All-in-all, the Photokina will live up to its name this year, so do not plan to take a vacation in September because you will miss a lot of exciting news!
