Fujifilm is now rumored to introduce the high-end X30 compact camera at Photokina 2014, boasting a 2/3-inch-type image sensor instead of a 1-inch-type sensor, like previously rumored.

The Fujifilm X30 should have been unveiled at the beginning of July. It should have served as a replacement for the X20, a high-end compact camera with a 2/3-inch-type sensor among other features.

One of its improvements when compared to its predecessor should have included a larger sensor. Some sources have said that it might have been bigger than the 1-inch-type, but trusted people have repeatedly claimed that it will not go beyond this size.

Either way, it appears that most of the initial reports have been completely wrong. A trusted source is back with more information and is claiming that the Fujifilm X30 camera will come packed with a 2/3″-type sensor, similar to the one found in its forerunner.

Fujifilm X30 will feature a 2/3-inch-type sensor, not a 1-inch-type model, source says

The latest rumor about the Fujifilm X20 replacement is claiming that the Fuji X30 is coming sometime around the Photokina 2014 with a 2/3-inch-type sensor.

The Fuji X20 was launched at the beginning of 2013 with a 12-megapixel X-Trans CMOS II image sensor, EXR Processor II image processing engine, 2.8-inch LCD screen, full HD video recording, and a lens that provides a 35mm equivalent of 28-112mm which offers a maximum aperture of f/2-2.8.

There have been numerous reports that this compact camera will be replaced in 2014. Some have even said that it will be released at the start of the year. However, this turned out to be false, just like the July 3 release date.

By the looks of it, the Fujifilm X30 compact camera will feature a 2/3-inch-type image sensor. The megapixel count is unknown, so you will have to stay tuned to find that out.

Fuji may announce the X30 compact camera at Photokina 2014 or sometime around the event

Regarding the launch date of the X20 successor, the Photokina 2014 is in pole position. The information comes from sources who have been right in the past, but it should not be treated as a fact for the time being.

Fuji may choose to reveal the compact camera prior to world’s largest digital imaging event. Even if this happens, the X30 will surely make an official appearance during this year’s Photokina.

Until the announcement date of the Fujifilm X30 compact camera, many things are left in the dark. Meanwhile, X20 stocks are pretty low at Amazon, where the shooter is available for about $500.
