Canon EF 11-24mm f/2.8L lens might be unveiled soon

Canon is rumored to be working on an EF-mount lens with a focal range between 11mm and 24mm, which will feature a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8.

As we are nearing the Photokina 2014 event, the rumors are starting to pour in. Multiple new products are expected to be unveiled prior to be start of the biggest digital imaging show on Earth, so Canon could not have missed this opportunity.

Beside the alleged launch of the EOS 7D Mark II DSLR camera, Canon will also introduce a new lens for full frame cameras. The EF 11-24mm f/2.8L optic is reportedly in the works and it will be announced sometime in the future.

The Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L is a wide-angle zoom lens which was launched earlier in 2014. Canon is allegedly working on another wide-angle zoom lens with a focal range of 11-24mm and a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8.

Canon EF 11-24mm f/2.8L lens is in development and it is coming sometime soon

The rumor mill is claiming that the Canon EF 11-24mm f/2.8L lens is being worked at and that it will become official sometime in the near future.

Unfortunately, an exact announcement date has not been provided, so we cannot say whether this is coming around the Photokina or sometime after the event.

The new optic will pack a constant maximum aperture throughout the zoom range, which will be useful for users who enjoy low-light photography.

As the aperture is constant and it is an L-designated lens, the EF 11-24mm f/2.8L will be a very expensive product. According to CanonRumors, its price will stand at $2,800, so you should start saving money right away.

The “year of the lenses” consists of only three Canon optics for the time being

Highly-trusted sources have repeatedly said that this is Canon’s “year of the lenses”. However, the company has only unveiled three models so far, one for each of company’s current mounts.

The EF 16-35mm f/4L IS lens has been introduced for full frame EOS cameras, while the EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM optic has been launched for EOS DSLRs with APS-C-sized image sensors.

The third model is the EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens, which is aimed at EOS M mirrorless cameras.

Many more units are expected soon, including a new EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS optic that should be revealed before the Photokina 2014 along with the 7D Mark II.

Meanwhile, it appears that some Canon L optics will have their prices decreased as of September 1. As usual, take these details with a pinch of salt and stick with us to find out the news as it happens!
