Dramatic before-and-after portraits of live-performing artists

Photographer Brandon Andersen has revealed an interesting series of photos, called “Before/After”, showing before-and-after portraits of artists performing live during this year’s Vans Warped Tour.

Being an artist does not translate into living an easy life. Actually, it is a lot harder than people might think, so music and editorial photographer Brandon Andersen has decided to test this theory.

The results have been put together in the “Before/After” photo project, which consists of before-and-after portraits of musicians during the 2014 Vans Warped Tour.

Lots of children dream of having a life where they can sing, dance, or act. They think that the big stage has been made for them. Also, there are plenty of grown-ups who think that the life of an artist is all about having fun, getting money, and partying even more.

In reality things are somewhat different. Performing live for hours each day while on month-long tours does not sound like fun. Artists are humans just like us, they have their own problems and struggles, but they need to put them away once they get on stage.

Brandon Andersen is a talented photographer who spends his time documenting music tours and capturing all the important bits of an event.

In order to show that performing on tours is taking a huge toll on musicians, the photographer has captured portraits of artists before they performed on the stage and after they accomplished their job.

The results are pretty interesting, especially considering the fact that these musicians have had to perform for weeks or months in a row across multiple countries.

The portraits reveal the exhausted faces of the artists, which should make us appreciate their work a little more.

Brandon Andersen is a music and editorial photographer who has been born in California. Apparently, he loves to call Cleveland a home, but a photo studio comes a close second.

Another important part of his work seem Brandon traveling by plane, but the good part is that he gets to process his shots in airport lounges.

Documenting live performances and music tours means that Brandon has more SD cards and exchange batteries in his luggage than socks.

It appears that the “Before/After” portraits have been captured with a Canon 5D Mark III and an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens.
