Fujifilm has confirmed that the company will unveil new X-series cameras along with new X-mount interchangeable lenses at the Photokina 2014 event.

The rumor mill has not ignored Fujifilm during this busy summer. The company is rumored to be working on a slew of products, which will become official sometime within days or weeks in preparation for Photokina 2014.

The Japan-based company has launched a special page on its site confirming that new Fujifilm cameras and lenses will be unveiled at the world’s largest digital imaging event.

Typo or careless confirmation? Fujifilm said that a full size sensor camera is coming at Photokina 2014. The page has been updated, but this is what it used to say.

Fujifilm full frame camera to be announced at Photokina 2014?

The original page included a relatively weird sentence. Fujifilm said that Photokina 2014 attendees will be able to test a new camera with a “full size sensor”. This led a lot of people to think that the company is indeed developing a mirrorless camera with a full frame image sensor, contrary to what its managers are saying in interviews.

Nevertheless, the page has been updated in the meantime and now it says that visitors will be able to test new high-resolution cameras with APS-C sensors, which are rivaling the quality of a full frame sensor.

High-resolution Fujifilm cameras coming soon, says the company

Although we should not rule out the possibility of seeing a full frame Fujifilm camera at Photokina 2014, we should note that the company’s new X-series cameras will definitely have higher-megapixel sensors.

The new wording makes it much clearer that the new X-Trans APS-C-sized sensors will offer bigger resolution. According to the rumor mill, both the X-Pro2 and X100T will sport a 24-megapixel sensor.

Fuji has not confirmed whether the sensor is based on new technology or on the same X-Trans II, which is available in the X-Pro1 and X100s.

Beside the X-Pro2 and the X100T, the manufacturer is expected to introduce the X30, a compact camera with a 12-megapixel 2/3-inch-type sensor.

Several new Fuji X-mount lenses will be introduced, too

As for the new Fujifilm lenses, we are expecting to see the XF 16mm f/1.4 R, a bright wide-angle optic, as well as the XF 90mm f/2 R, a bright telephoto optic.

Additionally, the XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR will get a proper launch event and will become the second weathersealed X-mount lens.

Finally, the focal length and aperture of the super telephoto zoom (a lens mentioned in the company’s official roadmap) will be revealed.
