Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R APD could be X-mount’s bokeh lens

The alleged Fujifilm lens designed exclusively to produce beautiful bokeh is rumored to have a focal length of 56mm and a maximum aperture of f/1.2, which is identical to that of an optic that is already available for X-mount photographers.

Fujifilm has been rumored to launch a bokeh-loving lens in recent times. The gossip talks have referred to an optic that would offer extremely beautiful bokeh, something which is delivered by the Sony-Minolta 135mm f/2.8 [T4.5] lens for A-mount cameras.

The sources have speculated that we may be facing a telephoto lens with a focal length around 100mm. However, it seems like this is not exactly true, as the product in question is now rumored to consist of the Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R APD lens.

This is the Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R lens, which was unveiled at CES 2014. The new Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R APD will not replace the existing model, instead it will serve as a complementary model that will deliver smooth bokeh.

Fuji is developing this special lens in order to allow photographers to add superbokeh to their shots. As a result, the so-called Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R APD could become the perfect portrait photography lens for X-mount users.

When attached to an X-mount mirrorless camera, it will provide a 35mm focal length equivalent of around 85mm.

As you may have already noticed, the focal length and aperture are identical to those of the existing 56mm f/1.2 R optic, which received its proper launch event at CES 2014.

The fact that the 56mm lens is quite new means that the upcoming bokeh-loving version will not replace it. It will serve as a complementary version, that only some users will purchase.

The Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R APD lens will come packed with an apodization filter, which can be found in the aforementioned Sony-Minolta 135mm f/2.8 [T4.5] lens.

Sony and Minolta’s version does not support autofocus. It is said that this is due to the apodization filter, so it remains to be seen whether or not Fuji will be able to put an AF motor into its lens.

Even if it does sport autofocus technology, the upcoming optic is rumored to be somewhat pricey, as it will allegedly be sold for about $1,400 or $1,500 in the US.

If this becomes true, then it suggests that smooth bokeh comes at a price, as the regular version is available for about $1,000 at Amazon.
