Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 II lens patent uncovered at the USPTO

Fujifilm has patented a new 35mm f/1.4 lens and the details coming through the grapevine are claiming that this product will become official at the beginning of 2015.

One of the first three Fujifilm X-mount lenses is the XF 35mm f/1.4 R. This bright wide-prime lens has been introduced along with the XF 18mm f/2 R and the XF 60mm f/2.4 R Macro in order to make sure that X-Pro1 owners will have some optics to shoot with at the mirrorless camera’s launch.

Since time passes by rather quickly, it may be the right time to replace some of the older optics. According to a report revealed in mid-2014, Fuji is actively developing a replacement for the 35mm f/1.4 model.

After a somewhat prolonged period of quietness regarding this subject, the Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 II lens patent has been uncovered and there are rumors suggesting that the product will be unveiled sometime early next year.

This is the patent for the Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 II lens. The product is allegedly coming in early 2015.

The patent was filed on June 4, 2014, one day after the rumors suggesting that such lens is in the works appeared on the web. Moreover, the patent was published on September 25, 2014, a few days after the conclusion of the Photokina 2014 event.

This could mean that the company has made significant progress in the development of this optic. There are multiple variations of the lens in the patent description, but it does not appear like there will be so many differences between the existing model and its successor.

The only certainties consist of the bright maximum aperture of f/1.4 and its 35mm focal length equivalent of 53mm.

On the other hand, it is rumored that the new version of the optic will employ a new autofocus motor. While some improvements when it comes to image quality are also expected, it does not seem like Fuji will make this product weathersealed.

The same statements were made in June 2014, therefore we can expect them to be fairly accurate. However, these are all rumors and should be treated as such, so do not jump to conclusions for the time being. Either way, the Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 II lens is rumored to be unveiled at the beginning of 2015.
