Huge Nikon Coolpix A price reduction now available in the US

Nikon Coolpix A, the flagship compact camera in the company’s line-up, has had its price reduced at several retailers, as talks of a replacement have resurfaced on the web.

The first compact camera with an APS-C-sized sensor in Nikon’s portfolio has been announced in early March 2013. The shooter is called Coolpix A and the rumor mill has said that it could be replaced at the Photokina 2014 event.

Nikon has not confirmed these rumors, so the Coolpix A is still without a successor. In the meantime, the price of the camera has been decreased to a dollar under $700, meaning that this is a $400 drop, as the device used to be available for about $1,100.

Nikon Coolpix A price decreased down to $699

Although the Nikon Coolpix A is a really good compact camera, many photographers have bemoaned the price of the device. After more than 18 months from its launch, the shooter can be finally purchased at an affordable price tag.

All major retailers in the US, such as Amazon and B&H PhotoVideo, have confirmed the new amount, so you will only have to decide which one is your favorite store.

The Nikon Coolpix A price reduction appears to be permanent, therefore it is unlikely that it will go back up. As stated above, the 36% discount amounts for a $400 decrease, down to $699 from $1,099.

About the Nikon Coolpix A

The Nikon Coolpix A features a 16-megapixel APS-C sensor and a built-in 18.5mm lens that offers a 35mm equivalent of 28mm and a maximum aperture of f/2.8.

It employs a 3-inch 921,000-pixel LCD screen on the back and a continuous shooting mode of up to 4fps. Its shutter speed ranges between 30 seconds and 1/2000th of a second, and it features the P/S/A/M modes as well as the ability to capture RAW photos.

This compact camera can also record full HD videos at up to 30fps and its maximum ISO sensitivity stands at 25,600.

Price reduction could be followed by discontinuation and a replacement

Be advised that Nikon might discontinue the Coolpix A soon, meaning that the stocks are rather limited. Its replacement was supposed to be unveiled at Photokina 2014, but now it could be revealed at CES 2015 or CP+ 2015.

The Consumer Electronics Show 2015 opens its doors in early January, while the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015 begins in mid-February.

Stay tuned to find out the latest details about the Nikon Coolpix A replacement!
