Olympus E-M5 successor announcement date set for January

Olympus will allegedly announce its next OM-D series mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds sensor sometime in January 2015 and the device will be on display at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015 in February.

A new Olympus OM-D camera was expected to show up at the Photokina 2014 event. However, the Japan-based company has failed to meet the expectations of the rumor mill and its fans.

During an interview at the world’s largest digital imaging trade fair of the year, the manufacturer’s president, Ogawa Haruo, has confirmed that the replacement for the mid-level E-M5 is “ready” and that it will be the next OM-D shooter to be unveiled.

The question that everybody asked themselves was “how soon?” Well, the answer to that inquiry comes from a trusted source, who is claiming that an exciting OM-D shooter will be revealed in January.

Olympus will reportedly introduce a new and exciting OM-D camera in January 2015. The device in question is a successor to the E-M5.

Olympus E-M5 successor poised for January 2015 announcement date

The gossipers have been unable to confirm whether or not the device in question is the Olympus E-M5 successor. However, the company’s president would have no reason to spread false information with all eyes turned on him.

This is why we can be fairly be certain that the former flagship OM-D camera will be replaced at the beginning of the year. On the other hand, the E-M5 was announced in February 2012, so the timeline of its replacement’s launch date fits like a glove.

Additionally, it is worth noting that the source has revealed that the shooter will make an appearance at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015.

This event takes place in Japan in mid-February and it should attract a lot of attention among Asian customers, who are part of a market that adores mirrorless cameras.

New Olympus OM-D camera to be “exciting” instead of an “evolution” of a current model

The specifications of this camera have remained unknown. Nevertheless, it has been specified that the device will be “exciting” and that it will not be an “evolution” of a current shooter.

Lately, photographers have been accustomed to seeing minor changes being implemented in new cameras, some notable examples being the Nikon D810 and Fujifilm X100T.

Olympus will apparently choose a different path, so the Olympus E-M5 successor should represent a major improvement over its predecessor.

At the time of writing this article, Amazon was selling the Olympus OM-D E-M5 for a price around $1,000. The price could drop as we are nearing its replacement’s launch, so stay tuned to find out all the details about this camera.
