Canon has accidentally confirmed the existence of the EF 11-24mm f/4L wide-angle lens on the European website of the Canon Professional Network, which has been updated for the launch of the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens.

The rumor mill has been talking about another high-end wide-angle lens for Canon EOS DSLRs since the beginning of this year. Eventually, the first photo of the EF 11-24mm f/4L wide-angle lens has been leaked on the web.

Sources have claimed that the optic is in contention for a mid-October launch. However, it appears that the product has been postponed. Anyway, its announcement event cannot be delayed for too long, as the lens has just showed up on a Canon Professional Network website.

Canon Europe spills the beans regarding the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM wide-angle lens launch

Canon has just revealed the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM super-telephoto zoom lens. As a result, the Japanese manufacturer has had to update all of its websites in order to let the whole world know that a new great lens is official.

Among the updated websites we can find the European version of the Canon Professional Network. Almost none of the sites held any surprises for the readers. However, the German site has “confirmed” a product that has been mentioned in gossip talks several times.

The product in question is the Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L wide-angle lens. Although a photo has not been displayed on the website, the listing has included a description of the product.

This is the “the widest ultra-wide angle zoom lens for Canon full frame cameras”

According to the Canon Professional Network, the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lens “is the widest ultra-wide angle zoom lens for full frame cameras”.

Moreover, this optic comes packed with a brand new design and will offer unrivaled performance as well as a “new lens coating”.

The company is probably referring to the Air Sphere Coating, which has been introduced for the first time in the aforementioned EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM super-telephoto zoom lens.

This is a new type of coating that is aimed at reducing even more ghosting and flaring when compared to the manufacturer’s previous coatings.

Official product launch event could take place soon

In the meantime, Canon has fixed its mistake, meaning that the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM wide-angle lens is no longer showing up on its Canon Professional Network website.

Either way, its official launch should not be delayed for too long, so we might see this product being revealed by the end of 2014. When it gets released, it should cost about $3,000, sources say.

Stick with us as we will let you know as soon as this lens becomes official!
