Sony is rumored to announce the A7000 high-end E-mount mirrorless camera with an APS-C image sensor in early 2015, most likely at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015.

For the past couple of years, Sony fans have been waiting for the company to release a follow-up to its flagship E-mount camera with an APS-C sensor.

The NEX-7 camera is one of the most critically acclaimed mirrorless model, but it was released on the market towards the end of 2011. This means that it is a a bit outdated so it needs to be replaced by a newer version.

Currently, the most advanced E-mount model with an APS-C sensor is the A6000, which succeeded the NEX-6 earlier in 2014. Well, the rumor mill has previously leaked some details about the NEX-7 replacement, but more gossip talks have just surfaced.

Sony A6000 is currently the most advanced E-mount mirrorless camera with an APS-C sensor, but the A7000 will grab the crown in February 2015.

It appears that the Sony A7000 announcement date is scheduled to take place in early 2015, with the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015 being in pole-position for the product’s launch event ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show 2015.

Sony A7000 announcement date allegedly scheduled for CP+ 2015

Reliable sources are reporting that a high-end E-mount camera with an APS-C image sensor is coming at the beginning of 2015. The camera will enter the market above the A6000, which means that this is the NEX-7 successor, called A7000.

Although the PlayStation maker is expected to launch a new camera at CES 2015, it is unlikely that the model in question is the Sony A7000 or the A9 full frame E-mount camera.

It would bring great joy to the company’s fans if the camera comes at the CES event in January, but they should expect the Sony A7000 announcement date to be set for CP+ 2015, an event taking place in mid-February. However, we should not rule out any possibilities for the time being, so take this with a pinch of salt.

Sony A7000 specs round-up

The last time the rumor mill mentioned the A7000, it was said that the mirrorless camera would feature a new 24-megapixel APS-C sensor, built-in electronic viewfinder, maximum shutter speed of 1/8000th of a second, tilting touchscreen on the back, TriNav controls, and an even better autofocus system than the one found in the A6000.

Sony’s NEX-7 replacement will also be weathersealed and will be able to output 4K video to an external recorder, just like the A7S. In the meantime, stay tuned to find out more information about the Sony A7000 announcement date!

For the time being, Amazon is selling the NEX-7 with an 18-55mm lens kit for about $1,100.
