Tamron has patented a couple of new lenses for mirrorless cameras. The 70-200mm f/4 Di III VC will be aimed at APS-C-sized cameras, while the 9-135mm f/3.5-5.6 Di III will be aimed at shooters with 1-inch-type sensors.

One of the companies which has been busy patenting lenses in recent times is Tamron. The manufacturer is specialized in zoom lenses and two units, both aimed at mirrorless cameras, have been patented this month.

Nevertheless, this does not mean that there is not enough room for more. In fact, not one, but two new Tamron optics for mirrorless shooters have just been patented and they could eventually make their way to the market along with the recently-patented 14-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Di III VC and 18-105mm f/4-5.6 Di III VC lenses.

Patent for Tamron 70-200mm f/4 Di III VC lens discovered in Japan

First comes the Tamron 70-200mm f/4 Di III VC lens. This model has been designed for MILCs with APS-C-sized image sensors, meaning that it will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of 105-300mm.

The optic comes packed with Vibration Compensation system in order to reduce the amount of blur in the photos. As usual, the VC technology will come in handy at telephoto focal lengths.

One of the major advantages of this optic consists of its maximum aperture of f/4 that is constant throughout the zoom range. The aperture is relatively fast and it will ensure that the lens will provide a shallow depth of field.

The design of the lens is inner focus, which means that the front lens element remains still during focusing. The patent was filed on May 24, 2013 and was published on December 8, 2014.

The other patent is describing a Tamron 9-135mm f/3.5-5.6 Di III lens for mirrorless cameras with 1-inch-type sensors. The optic would provide a 35mm equivalent of approximately 24-365mm and it would be perfect for Nikon 1-series models.

The description of the patent is mentioning that the optic could be adjusted to fit Micro Four Thirds sensors, which are slightly bigger than 1-inch models. If it gets released for MFT shooters, then it will offer a 35mm equivalent of 18-270mm.

Although this lens would reach decent telephoto lengths, the patent does not mention Tamron’s Vibration Compensation technology. This means that users will need steady hands in order to make sure that the subjects will not be blurred in their photos.

This patent was filed on May 22, 2013 and it was approved on the same date as the one for the Tamron 70-200mm f/4 Di III VC lens: December 8, 2014. For the time being, do not hold your breath over these lenses and stay tuned for more info!
