Tamron 70-300mm f/4-6.3 Di III lens patented in Japan

Tamron has patented an impressive telephoto zoom lens for 1-inch-type mirrorless cameras in the body of the 70-300mm f/4-6.3 optic.

In recent weeks, Tamron has been granted patents of several lenses aimed at different types of cameras. However, the company is not putting an end to its patent applications and another one has just been granted.

The latest in a long series of patents is describing the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-6.3 Di III lens, which has been designed for mirrorless cameras with 1-inch-type image sensors.

If it gets released, the optic will provide a 35mm focal length equivalent of approximately 189-810mm and will compete against the Nikon 1 Nikkor VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens.

Tamron could get really serious when it comes to lenses for Nikon’s 1-series of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras.

After patenting the 9-135mm f/3.5-5.6 Di III optic for such shooters, the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-6.3 Di III lens patent has showed up on the web for the same type of cameras.

This new model will offer a 35mm equivalent of 189-810, a super-telephoto zoom lens in a true sense. This modelwill get you really close to the action and wildlife animals that do not appreciate human companionship.

Tamron’s version will fight against the 1 Nikkor VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens

The Tamron 70-300mm f/4-6.3 Di III lens would be a competitor to the already-available Nikon 1 Nikkor VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6, which can be bought at Amazon for about $1,000.

Unfortunately, the patented third-party optic does not mention an image stabilization system. This means that it will come without such technology that is a must-have at such telephoto focal lengths.

There are two reasons why the Japanese may have made this decision: to reduce the size and weight of the lens and to keep its price down. Nevertheless, only time will tell if this lens becomes available and what kind of features it will provide.

Tamron is already selling a 70-300mm lens for DSLR cameras

The company is currently making the AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 SP Di VC USD XLD optic for Nikon, Canon, and Sony DSLRs. It can be purchased at Amazon for around $400 (following a $50 rebate).

This model replaces an older version that did not employ Vibration Compensation technology. This means that you can say that Tamron has some experience with 70-300mm lenses.

Launching a version for 1-inch-type mirrorless cameras would not be a major surprise, so it remains to be seen whether the manufacturer can pull it off or not.
