More Olympus OM-D E-M5II details revealed ahead of launch

Sources have revealed more Olympus OM-D E-M5II details before the mirrorless interchangeable lens camera’s launch event, which will take place in early February.

Olympus is preparing the launch of a new OM-D mirrorless camera. The new E-M5II will replace the E-M5, which was launched back in February 2012.

The company has unveiled one OM-D model per year, with the E-M1 introduced in 2013 and the E-M10 released in 2014. Now, it is time to substitute the original shooter, which will become an “award-winning” device, according to Olympus itself.

A few photos of the camera have showed up on the web, which has allowed us to find out some thing about the E-M5 successor. Now, it is rumor mill’s turn to supply some more Olympus OM-D E-M5II details.

The new information is stating that the electronic viewfinder found in the E-M5II is borrowed from the higher-end E-M1.

Moreover, the controls of the camera have grown in number, just like we have already seen in the leaked shots, and their functionality is also taken from the E-M1.

Even the design is inspired by the flagship OM-D-series Micro Four Thirds camera in order to give this model a more professional look.

One thing that still requires confirmation is whether or not the tilting display on the back is fully articulated. This is what the images are telling us, but we would still like to hear it from the sources who have seen the camera in person.

What else do we know about the Olympus E-M5II?

The new mirrorless camera will come packed with the same 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor as the E-M5. However, Olympus has added sensor-shift technology and a new processor in order to allow the E-M5II to capture 40-megapixel photos.

The on-sensor 5-axis image stabilization system is still there, albeit it is a slightly improved version. It is worth stating that there will be no Phase Detection AF support.

The shooter will not be capable of capturing 4K videos. However, it will support full HD video recording with clean HDMI output and 50Mbps bitrate.

The autofocus system is said to include some enhancements designed for videography. Nevertheless, we will have to wait for the official announcement to find out all the Olympus OM-D E-M5II details.
