Nikon Coolpix AW130 and S33 rugged cameras announced

Nikon has unveiled two new rugged compact cameras, Coolpix AW130 and Coolpix S33, which will allows users to record their extreme adventures without worrying about the well-being of their cameras.

A lot of Coolpix cameras have been expected from Nikon ahead of CP+ 2015 as their names have been mentioned within the rumor mill several times.

The company has decided to stop keeping people on their toes and it has announced a couple of new Coolpix-series rugged cameras, which will allow photographers to capture photos in harsh environments. The new AW130 and S33 will be present at CP+ 2015 and will be released in the near future.

The brand new Nikon Coolpix AW130 features a 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch-type CMOS image sensor and a 3-inch 921,000 OLED screen on the back, which allows users to frame photos and videos.

The compact camera is capable of capturing full HD videos, albeit its main selling point is its ruggedness. The shooter is waterproof down to 30 meters / 100 feet, freezeproof down to -10 degrees Celsius / 14 degrees Fahrenheit, and shockproof to 2.1-meter / 7ft drops.

Nikon has added a 5x optical zoom lens that offers a 35mm focal length equivalent of 24-120mm and a maximum aperture of f/2.8-4.9 into the Coolpix AW 130.

This camera features built-in WiFi and NFC, so that users can transfer photos and videos to a mobile device with ease. Additionally, it comes with integrated GPS and a digital compass, so that it records the location of where your photos are taken and to show the direction of where you are going, respectively.

Nikon Coolpix AW130 will be released in blue, black, and yellow colors this March for a price of $349.95. It can be pre-ordered at Amazon right now.

The new Nikon Coolpix S33 is also a rugged compact camera. It is waterproof to depths down to 10 meters / 33 feet, freezeproof to -10 degrees Celsius / 14 degrees Fahrenheit, and shockproof to drops from 1.5 meters / 5 feet.

It can record full HD videos as well thanks to a 13.2-megapixel 1/3.1-inch-type CMOS sensor. Its 3x optical zoom lens offers a 35mm equivalent of 30-90mm and a maximum aperture of f/3.3-5.9.

On the back, users will find a 2.7-inch 230,000-dot LCD screen which acts as the camera’s Live View. Unlike the AW130, the S33 does not feature WiFi, NFC, or GPS, so photographers will have to rely on the USB 2.0 port for file transfer.

Nikon Coolpix S33 will be released in blue and white colors this March for a price of $149.95. It is available for pre-order at Amazon.
