Panasonic 30mm f/2.8 Macro lens coming at CP+ 2015

Panasonic is rumored to announce two new lenses for Micro Four Thirds cameras at CP+ 2015, including the 30mm f/2.8 Macro, whose development was confirmed at Photokina 2014.

At the Photokina 2014 event, Panasonic unveiled the Lumix G 14mm f/2.5 II ASPH lens, the second-generation of a pancake lens with identical focal length and maximum aperture.

In addition to this product, the company has also confirmed that it is working on a 30mm f/2.8 unit with macro capabilities, which will be announced and released sometime in the distant future.

Roughly five months have passed and it appears that this lens’ time has come. According to a reliable source, who has been right in the past, the Japan-based company is planning to reveal two Micro Four Thirds lenses at CP+ 2015, including the 30mm f/2.8 Macro version.

The Panasonic 30mm f/2.8 Macro lens will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of 60mm. The company has said that it will offer “life-size” macro capabilities, which means that a subject’s size will be accurately reproduced on the sensor plane.

The optic will support high-speed 240fps autofocus, a technology which has been added into Panasonic’s latest mirrorless cameras. In addition, it employs built-in optical image stabilization technology, making sure that photos will not turn out blurry.

The Japan-based manufacturer has said that the optic will come packed in a stylish design and that it will offer superior image quality. Beside macro photography, the Micro Four Thirds creator says that its lens will be suitable for landscape photography.

A mock-up of the Panasonic 30mm f/2.8 Macro lens was revealed at Photokina 2014. However, the real deal is rumored to be present at CP+ 2015, which opens its doors on February 12.

Another Panasonic lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras is expected at the event

In addition to the 30mm f/2.8 Macro lens, Panasonic will display a mock-up version of another optic aimed at mirrorless cameras with Micro Four Thirds sensors.

The source has not revealed the focal length or the aperture of the lens. It is said that the company will only announce the development of this second optic and that its launch date will probably follow later in 2015.

The CP+ 2015 event is very close, so we should find out the full details in the neighboring future. Stay tuned to Camyx for more information!
