Tokina introduces AT-X 24-70mm f/2.8 PRO FX standard zoom lens at CP+ 2015

The Tokina AT-X SD 24-70mm f/2.8 (IF) FX lens will offer a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout its zoom range. This means that it can provide an aperture of f/2.8 regardless of focal length.

It consists of 15 elements in 11 groups, which includes Super Low Dispersion and aspherical elements in order to reduce chromatic aberration and other optical defects.

Its design is based on an internal focus mechanism, meaning that the front lens element does not move during focusing. This optic will offer a minimum focusing distance of 38 centimeters.

Although it has been designed for Nikon and Canon full frame cameras, it will be compatible with APS-C shooters, too. When mounted on such DSLRs, the lens will offer a 35mm equivalent of approximately 36-105mm.

The Canon version of the Tokina AT-X SD 24-70mm f/2.8 (IF) FX lens will weigh about 1,000 grams, while the Nikon version is said to be lighter, weighing about 900 grams.

Both versions will have a diameter of about 89.6mm and a length of about 107.5mm. Its magnification rate will stand at 4.73, so you could say that this lens is not the intended for macro photography. It is a standard zoom lens, which means that it suited for landscape, travel, wedding, street, and cityscape photography.

The price and release date details of the Tokina AT-X SD 24-70mm f/2.8 (IF) FX lens have not been mentioned during CP+ 2015. However, this information should be revealed in the near future.

For the time being, B&H PhotoVideo is listing both the Canon and Nikon models on its website. It is worth noting that it is unlikely that the lens will become available in other mounts.
