UK-based photographer Greg Whitton has won the Outdoor Photographer of the Year 2014 award thanks to an amazing photo of Iceland’s Southern Highlands landscape.

Landscape photographers who travel a lot have a few favorite destinations. Some of the locations include Iceland, Norway, Scotland, and the New Zealand, so it should not be a surprise if photo contests involving outdoor photography are won by images captured in one of these countries.

Such is the case of the Outdoor Photographer of the Year 2014 award, which has been granted to Greg Whitton, a photographer from the UK, who has submitted a stunning view of the Southern Highlands in Iceland.

The winning photo has been captured during a week-long camping trip in Iceland. Photographer Greg Whitton recalls that the lighting has not been very good throughout the excursion, not even during the day when the winning shot has been captured.

The photographer says that clouds were blocking the sun light and that his camera’s battery was running low, so he had decided to go back to camp as the chances of taking the desired shots were slim.

However, shortly after descending, the clouds had begun to part, revealing a beautiful light embracing Iceland’s Southern Highlands.

The prize for winning the Outdoor Photographer of the Year 2014 contest includes a place for Greg Whitton at the Fjällräven Polar expedition in the arctic tundra.

The winning photo has been captured with a Fujifilm X-T1 mirrorless camera and an XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens at 10mm, 200 ISO sensitivity, 1/10th of a second exposure time, and f/11 aperture.
