The upcoming Fujifilm X-Pro2 is rumored to feature a higher-megapixel sensor and 4K video recording, as a company executive recognizes the need for sensors with more megapixels and improved video capabilities in X-series cameras.

The rumor mill and Fujifilm itself are feeding us with small pieces of information about the future of the X-mount mirrorless cameras. Recently, it has been said that the upcoming flagship, called X-Pro2, will be more compact than its predecessor, will feature a built-in hybrid viewfinder, and will have a new sensor that is an “evolution” of the current model.

In a different interview, a Fuji manager says that the current line-up of X-mount lenses is capable of handling higher resolutions, so they are waiting for something like that to show up in the future. Moreover, Toshihisa Iida admits that there is a need for better videography features in the X-mount series.

Meanwhile, the rumor mill is claiming that the Fujifilm X-Pro2 will be a 4K video recording camera with a bigger-megapixel sensor.

The Fujifilm X-Pro2 mirrorless camera, replacing the X-Pro1, is rumored to be capable of recording 4K videos.

Fuji X-Pro2 rumored to be capable of recording 4K videos

One of the most requested features in a camera is currently the ability to record videos at 4K resolution. As several smartphones can do this, it is natural that videographers are demanding to see it in their dedicated cameras.

After the Panasonic GH4, Sony A7S, and Samsung NX1, it appears that the Fuji X-Pro2 will be the next mirrorless interchangeable lens camera to be capable of recording high-resolution videos.

An unnamed source says that the X-mount camera will offer this capability and a different source says that the device is coming in late 2015 with a 24-megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor.

The remainder of the camera’s specs list includes a tilting display, built-in WiFi, and two SD memory card slots.

Fujifilm manager says that a Sony A7S-like camera is not coming in the near future

As stated above, a Fujifilm manager has recognized that there is a need for better video quality in the X-series cameras. However, he has written off the possibility of making a camera like the Sony A7S in the near future.

Toshihisa Iida says that, while there is need for a higher megapixel sensor and improved videography features, the company will not make a 4K camera in the near future because “it is still focused on still photography”.

This contradicts the aforementioned rumor, but it would not be the first time that someone denies a claim, which actually turned out to be true. Either way, do not hold your breath over 4K video support in the Fuji X-Pro2 and stay tuned for more!
