Canon is rumored to announce a new L-designed lens by the end of 2015. It will consist of a prime optic and it is said to be a new version of the 35mm f/1.4 lens.

A few days prior to the start of the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015, Canon introduced the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lens. This product has been welcomed by reviewers, who call it as one of the best and most useful wide-angle zoom optics on the market.

The company is planning to launch yet another high-quality, L-designated lens, by the end of this year. However, the rumor mill is claiming that the next model will be a prime unit, instead of a zoom one. One of the most likely models to show up on the market is said to be a Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens.

Canon is rumored to announce a new L-designed lens with a fixed focal length in 2015. The most likely model to show up is a successor to the EF 35mm f/1.4L USM wide-angle lens.

Canon has plenty of optics which are in need of a replacement, as they they have been available on the market for a very long time. As stated above, the EF 35mm f/1.4L USM is one the oldest models in the company’s line-up, so it should be replaced sometime in the near future.

There have been several gossip talks regarding the possible launch of the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens in recent years. It appears that its time has finally come, as the rumor mill is claiming that the Japan-based manufacturer will introduce soon a new L-designed lens which will offer a fixed focal length.

The optic is said to be on track for a late summer or early fall official announcement. Before this product’s unveiling, no other L-designated optic will be revealed. For the time being, the EF 35mm f/1.4L USM is available at Amazon for $1,329, thanks to a $150 mail-in rebate.

Another non-L prime lens could be revealed by Canon during the same event

Beside the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens, the company is rumored to launch a non-L prime optic with a 50mm focal length. The f/1.8 version is the most likely to show up on the market. It would not be a surprise if both the 35mm and 50mm are announced during the same event.

Although a couple of telephoto optics are expected to show up by the end of the year, too, there is a chance that only these two primes will see the light of day in 2015. After this year ends, the manufacturer will introduce a unique macro lens.

Until then, we invite you to stay tuned to Camyx and to take these details with a pinch of salt.
