Canon will announce a Panasonic GH4 competitor at NAB Show 2015, which will consist of a fixed-lens camera that will be capable of recording 4K videos.

There has been a lot of chatter regarding a Canon-made camera that will rival the Panasonic GH4. At first, it was said to be a DSLR that would capture in-body 4K videos, but, earlier this year, a Canon manager has hinted that the company may be developing a GH4 competitor in the form of a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.

Unfortunately, it seems like the end result will not consist of either of these solutions. Instead, the company will launch a fixed-lens camera with a design inspired by the EOS C100 Mark II camcorder.

Panasonic GH4 will get a new competitor from Canon in the form of a fixed-lens camera.

Canon’s Panasonic GH4 rival is actually a camcorder with a fixed lens

Around the same time Canon was rumored to launch a Panasonic GH4 rival, the company was also rumored to be working on a Cinema EOS camera with a fixed lens. According to a trusted source, these two devices are one and the same.

This means that Canon’s Panasonic GH4 rival will consist of a traditional camcorder instead of a smaller interchangeable lens camera. The source is also claiming that the design of the unnamed 4K camera will be similar to that of the EOS C100 Mark II, which was introduced in late 2014.

Whereas the design will get its traits from the C100 II, the dimensions of the device are unknown, so we will have to wait a little more in order to find out whether or not the device will be smaller than its source of inspiration.

Canon’s Panasonic GH4 rival will be announced during the National Association of Broadcasters Show 2015 (NAB Show 2015), which will begin on April 11, 2015.

Canon will announce the C300 Mark II at NAB Show 2015, but not the C500 Mark II

During the aforementioned NAB Show 2015, Canon will also bring the EOS C300 Mark II. This Cinema EOS camcorder will record 4K videos as well.

On the other hand, it appears that the EOS C500 Mark II will not be introduced at this event. The company may confirm its development, but its official product launch event will be held at a later date.

The C300 II will be released in the near future, while the C500 II will most likely show up at a store near you towards the end of 2015. Do not jump to any conclusions for now and stay tuned to Camyx!
