The Canon 50mm f/1.2L II lens has been mentioned once again within the rumor mill, as insiders have revealed more details about this optic, which is now expected to show up in 2016.

A bunch of new Canon lenses are allegedly in development. We have heard through the grapevine that many new optics will become official by the end of this year, while others are coming in 2016.

Canon 50mm f/1.2L II lens is one of these products. It has been briefly mentioned by trusted sources, who have claimed that it has some chances of becoming official in 2015. However, more information about the optic has surfaced on the web, detailing its launch date and its construction.

Canon 50mm f/1.2L II lens will most likely be released in 2016

First of all, there are very few chances for the Canon 50mm f/1.2L II lens to be unveiled in 2016. It seems like the Japan-based company will launch an EF-mount 50mm f/1.8 STM lens in April 2015, while an EF-mount 35mm f/1.4L optic will show up later this year.

The manufacturer will probably choose to leave some breathing room therefore the replacement to the 50mm version with a maximum aperture of f/1.2 will show up sometime in 2016. It is worth noting that it may not be released early next year, so you should expect this product to become available during mid-2016.

For now, there are no definitive announcement and release dates for this optic, which means that a lot of things can change in the meantime.

Canon will fix the focus shift issues specific to the current generation

There are a couple of new Canon 50mm f/1.2L II lens details included in the latest rumors. It appears that the Mark II version will be tinier than the current generation, but it will also manage to be heavier.

Additionally, the next model will offer an improved image quality. The leakster says that the company has managed to fix this lenses’ focus shift problems by adding a floating glass element into the internal configuration.

The current generation is well-known for its issues with focus shift that is caused by heavy spherical aberration. A lot of photographers have noticed this problem, which mainly causes subjects to be slightly out of focus and the photos to appear blurry.

Meanwhile, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens is available at Amazon for about $1,550.
