Canon EOS 5D Mark IV to feature faster sensor readout speed

Canon may add the same readout technology used in the new EOS C300 Mark II camcorder into the EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR, which is rumored to be announced this summer.

It has been a while since the last time the rumor mill has mentioned the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR camera. Thankfully, insiders have not forgotten about this device and they have provided more information about it. This mention has been triggered by the unveiling of the EOS C300 Mark II camcorder. According to the source, the company will add technology available in the camcorder into the DSLR, allowing it to read information from the sensor faster, thus reducing rolling shutter effects.

The replacement to the Canon 5D Mark III might feature an improved sensor readout technology, which is taken from the new EOS C300 Mark II camcorder.

Canon to add C300 Mark II technology into the 5D Mark IV

Right before the start of the NAB Show 2015, Canon introduced the EOS C300 Mark II and the XC10 camcorders. Both units come packed with very fast readout speeds, but the former employs a new technology that allows it to counteract the effects of a rolling shutter.

It is said that the readout is based on a dual-channel system, which is a hardware improvement. The source claims that this hardware enhancement is a better replica of the software changes made by Magic Lantern in its custom firmware solutions.

As the Japan-based company is quite focused on video features, the 5D Mark III replacement will have to bring multiple videography features to the DSLR market. The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will record 4K videos, just like the C300 Mark II and XC10, so videographers could be in for a treat in the near future.

Canon is rumored to announce the 5D Mark IV sometime during the summer of 2015. The DSLR will come packed with a 28-megapixel full frame sensor that shoots 4K videos.

Additionally, an improved image processor will power the camera in order to allow users to capture 9fps in burst mode. Its maximum ISO sensitivity could reach 204,800, while its autofocus system will most likely be the 61-point model from the 5DS and 5DS R cameras.

Another specification thrown into the rumor mill consists of support for dual SD card slots, allowing users to store more photos and videos without swapping memory cards.
