Blackmagic reveals Micro Cinema Camera for pro filmmakers

Blackmagic has joined the NAB Show 2015 event in order to announce the Micro Cinema Camera, a mirrorless camera with Micro Four Thirds mount support aimed at professional and amateur filmmakers.

One of the companies which has attracted a lot of audience thanks to its tiny cameras for professional movie-makers is Blackmagic. The company’s shooters are compact and are offering a high image quality when it comes to video recording as well as support for Micro Four Thirds lenses.

After the Pocket Cinema Camera, the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera is now official. The device was introduced at the National Association of Broadcasters Show 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It features a Super 16mm sensor and the ability to hold lenses designed for Micro Four Thirds cameras.

Blackmagic says that the Micro Cinema Camera is the smallest camera created for professional filmmakers. It can be easily operated from a distance thanks to wireless connectivity and it can be mounted on drones, cars, and other vehicles.

The company says that the camcorder measures 82.5 x 69.5 x 64.3 mm / 3.25 x 2.74 x 2.57 inches, while weighing 300 grams / 10.65 ounces, so it is supported by pro-grade quadcopters.

In order to fight against the cheaper GoPro Hero cameras, this model offers professional features, such as a Super 16mm sensor that supports both RAW and ProRes video recording. Additionally, its Super 16mm sensor comes with 13 stops of dynamic range.

The Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera features a global shutter alongside a rolling shutter. The former offers full HD video recording at 30fps, while the latter supports full HD at up to 60fps with RAW and ProRes recording.

Micro Cinema Camera offers support for a myriad of external accessories for professionals

The list of advantages over the GoPro series includes Micro Four Thirds lenses. Using the Hero cameras, filmmakers are restricted to a single lens, while the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera supports interchangeable MFT optics for each and every situation.

Moreover, its body is made out of magnesium alloy therefore it can withstand some punches. All of these are available alongside an expansion port which can be used to send video via wireless connectivity. In addition, HDMI output is supported and videos can be stored internally on an SD card.

This Micro Four Thirds camera also features a built-in stereo microphone, albeit a 3.5mm microphone port is available, too. It is worth noting that the camera does not have an integrated screen, therefore users will have to view the settings on an external display using the HDMI or composite video options.

Finally, the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera will be released on the market soon and it is available for pre-order from B&H PhotoVideo.
