Fujifilm has officially announced the XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR lens for X-mount mirrorless cameras and it will begin selling the optic by the end of May 2015.

Around the middle of 2014, Fujifilm updated its official lens roadmap in order to include a wide-angle model with a 16mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/1.4.

The optic was expected to be revealed at Photokina 2014 or at CES 2015, but it failed to meet the expectations of the rumor mill.

At the beginning of 2015, the rumors about this lens’ announcement began pilling up, but a few months still had to pass until the official launch. Without further ado, the Fujifilm XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR lens has been introduced and it will become available in the near future.

Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR lens finally revealed by Fujifilm

Fuji has officialized the Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR lens that offers weather-sealing in order to make sure that harsh environments will not hinder its performance.

The fixed-focal length lens will provide a high image quality even in poorly-lit scenes, while being suitable for macro photography thanks to its stunning bokeh effects.

The Japan-based company says that the lens employs a minimum focusing distance of 6 inches / 15 centimeters, so users will be able to get close to their subjects.

Fujifilm’s latest optic is dustproof and freezeproof, so it can perform admirably at temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius / 14 degrees Fahrenheit.

Fuji to release its bright wide-angle lens sooner and cheaper than expected

The new Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR lens features 13 elements in 11 groups, including a couple of aspherical elements and a duo of Extra Low Dispersion elements. These are joined by a Nano-GI coating in order to cut down all sorts of optical defects.

Fuji says that the lens comes with a depth-of-field scale along with rings for the aperture and focus. Speaking of the focus system, the lens supports AF speeds as fast as 0.11 seconds.

Additionally, the optic provides 1/3 EV steps and it is very silent, so it will be a quiet partner in places where photographers must keep noise levels to the minimum.

Unlike reported by the rumor mill, the Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR lens will become available for $999.95. It will be released in late May 2015 and it is available for pre-order at Amazon.
