Adobe has officially announced Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6 for professional photographers using Windows and Mac OS X 64-bit operating systems.

The rumor mill said that it should have been released more than a month ago. However, the official release date of the next-generation Lightroom software has been set for April 21, 2015.

The new image-processing software is being split into two versions – Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6 – unlike Photoshop, which is available only within the Creative Cloud as the Creative Suite has been discontinued after the sixth generation.

Adobe has revealed that Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6 are identical when it comes to their features with one exception: mobile integration.

Adobe Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6 announced with HDR Merge and GPU integration

The Creative Cloud continues to add more features for its subscribers, says Adobe. The latest addition to the CC suite is the latest version of Lightroom, which comes packed with a huge amount of improvements.

The first feature promoted by the company is called HDR Merge. The newest Lightroom software can be used for merging multiple RAW shots captured at different exposure settings into one RAW file, which can be edited like a regular shot.

Panorama Merge is another new feature which can be used for combining multiple shots and turning them into one RAW file in order to bring out the best out of your panoramas.

Facial Recognition has been added to Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6. It can be used to automatically find your friends, family or even yourself in your image library.

Video Slideshows are short movies which can be created from the photos and videos in your library. Moreover, users can add music on top of these slideshows along with special pan and zoom effects among others.

As expected, the programs come packed with performance improvements. Both Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6 can make use of a computer’s GPU for enhancing the speed by up to 10 times when compared to the previous version.

What is the difference between Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6?

As social networking continues to take over the world, Adobe has added improved social sharing features into the latest version of Lightroom. Users can easily share their photos as well as slideshows on Facebook, Instagram, and Flickr.

Mobile experience is also becoming more important for professional photographers. The CC version allows users to take control of their catalog from iOS or Android smartphones or tablets.

Moreover, since Android 5.0 Lollipop devices support DNG RAW files, users can process their shots on mobile devices powered by Android.

This is the difference between Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6. The former comes with mobile integration thanks to cloud computing, while the latter does not.
