Creepy photos of Abandoned NYC places by Will Ellis

Photographer Will Ellis is the author of the “Abandoned NYC” photo book which consists of creepy images of abandoned places scattered around New York City.

New York City is one of the largest urban areas in the world. One could think that there is not enough room to throw a needle in this city, but one could not be more wrong. In fact, there are plenty of places that have been abandoned and which find themselves in ruin.

These places need to be documented, as they may fall apart completely and turn to rubble or someone may purchase them in order to bring them back to life. Thankfully, they are being documented by photographer Will Ellis, who is the author of the “Abandoned NYC” project.

Will Ellis explores New York City’s ruins for his “Abandoned NYC” project

Abandoned NYC was kickstarted in spring 2012. In the meantime, artist Will Ellis has confessed his obsession for all things engulfed in the “weird fiction” category. Horror movies are often centered around an abandoned place, so the photographer has decided to explore all the creepy places in New York City.

Will says that he is not a scholar, a historian, an urban explorer, or a documentary photographer. However, his humble personality will not deter us from praising his artistic skills as well as his diligence when it comes to photographing these spooky places.

One of the artist’s goals is to prove that there is still some mystery left on this planet along with wildness even in large urban areas such as New York City. Will could not be more right, as among the deserted places you can find a sugar refinery, hospitals, factories, schools, and many other structures.

Artist is aiming to document abandoned palces in the entire New York metropolitan area

The project is growing and we hope that it will not come to an end anytime soon. Will Ellis is no longer documenting ruins in New York City, but in the whole New York metropolitan area and beyond.

The photos portraying urban decay have been compiled into a photo book, which was released on the market in early 2015. The book is available for purchase at Amazon for under $25.

Despite all that, urban exploring is simply not enough to pay the bills, says the artist. As a result, Will is also a freelance photographer, videographer, and more. His work can be seen at his personal website, where you can learn a thing or two about him.
