Nikon is rumored to announce two super-telephoto prime lenses with a fluorite element and image stabilization technology sometime within the next 60 days.

There are few rumors regarding future Nikon products compared to the amount of rumors from Canon, Sony, or Fujifilm among others. It is unclear whether the company is currently revising its strategy or simply doing a better job at keeping secrets.

Either way, some things will end up in the rumor mill and it seems like a couple of super-telephoto prime optics are on their way to the market. They will arrive this summer and they will consist of the AF-S 500mm f/4E FL ED VR and AF-S 600mm f/4E FL ED VR lenses.

Nikon 500mm f/4G ED VR AF-S SWM lens will be replaced by a fluorite version this summer. A 600mm f/4 FL version will be announced, too.

Nikon 500mm and 600mm f/4 lenses with fluorite elements to be announced this summer

In 2014, Nikon was rumored to be working on two high-end telephoto optics that were supposed to replace existing models. The new lenses were said to get fluorite elements, while being readied for a 2015 release.

The rumors are back and they are saying that the AF-S 500mm f/4E FL ED VR and AF-S 600mm f/4E FL ED VR will become official sometime between the following 1-2 months.

It is very likely that both units will be unveiled at the same time. Although they will be unveiled this summer, they will probably be released on the market during the fall.

New AF-S 500mm f/4E FL ED VR and AF-S 600mm f/4E FL ED VR to be smaller, lighter, pricier

The Nikon 500mm and 600mm f/4 lenses with fluorite elements will substitute the 500mm f/4G ED VR and 600mm f/4G ED VR lenses, respectively.

The new models will employ an improved image stabilization technology along with a fluorite element. The Japanese manufacturer has added such element to the 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR lens, which was announced in May 2014.

A fluorite element will improve the image quality, while reducing the weight and the size of the lens. This means that the AF-S 500mm f/4E FL ED VR and AF-S 600mm f/4E FL ED VR will be tinier, lighter, and pricier than their predecessors.

Amazon is selling the 500mm f/4G ED VR AF-S SWM for about $8,300 and the 600mm f/4G ED VR II AF-S SWM for about $9,300. The stocks are quite low, which is a sign that replacements are on their way, but the retailer says that more units are coming soon, which is a sign that successors are not coming soon. Either way, stay tuned to Camyx for more details!
