Canon will allegedly hold a major product launch event on August 14 in order to announce two lenses and one DSLR, possibly the EOS 1D X Mark II or the Rebel SL2 / EOS 150D.
A trusted source is reporting that a big announcement event will be held by Canon on August 14. The leakster is also claiming to know how many products will become official. It seems like one DSLR and two lenses will be revealed by the Japan-based company next month.
These rumors are leading to further speculations, stating that the DSLR will not consist of either the 5D Mark IV or the 6D Mark II. Most likely, the Rebel SL2 / 150D or the 1D X Mark II will become official, while one of the lenses will be the EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM.
Canon Rebel SL2 / EOS 150D or 1D X Mark II to be unveiled on August 14
As stated above, one DSLR will be unveiled by the world’s largest digital camera and lens vendor on August 14. A few models are expected to become official in the foreseeable future, but we can rule out at least two models for the next event: the 5D Mark IV and 6D Mark II.
At this point, the most trusted sources are stating that there is no chance for either of the 5D Mark IV or the 6D Mark II to be announced in 2015. Both will be introduced in 2016, albeit the timeframe remains unknown.
Although insiders have stated that the next EOS flagship camera, called 1D X Mark II, will become available in 2016, the DSLR still has chances of being unveiled this year.
However, it is worth noting that the Rebel SL2 / 150D has the strongest chance of becoming official during the August 14 event. In the past, the DSLR has been said to be slated for a July 2015 announcement and for an August 2015 release.
The camera is supposed to feature a new 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, 19 autofocus points, full HD video recording, 4.5fps continuous shooting mode, 3-inch touchscreen, WiFi, and NFC.
EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM and another lens to become official during the same event
In the lens department, Canon will definitely unveil the EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM, which has received a lot of mentions during the past months. It will replace the existing generation with improved design and image quality.
The second optic is a bit of a mystery. Although the company has been said to be working on an EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM, it is unlikely that two “L” will be introduced during the same event.
It would not be a surprise if the other lens consists of an EF-S or EF-M unit. More information could be leaked prior to the announcement event, so stay tuned!
