GoPro reveals its smallest and lightest Hero ever: Hero4 Session

CEO Nicholas Woodman has revealed that the challenge was to create a smaller Hero without compromising quality. The result consists of a cube-shaped action camera that is 50% smaller as well as 40% lighter than the Hero4 Black and Silver models.

The new Hero4 Session will be capable of recording 720p videos at up to 100fps, 1080p videos at 60fps, and 1440p videos at up to 30fps. Additionally, the action cam will capture 8-megapixel stills in single, burst, or time-lapse modes.

All features can be accessed at the touch of a button. A small press powers up the camera and starts recording videos, while a longer press puts the Hero4 Session in time-lapse mode. A second press will save and stop the recording.

Cube-shaped GoPro Hero4 Session to be released in mid-July

There are a couple of important features available in the Hero4 Session. The cube-shaped action cam is waterproof out of the box, meaning that it does not require an external case for being able to withstand depths down to 10 meters / 33 feet. Moreover, the camera comes packed with two microphones switching between each other in order to cut muffle sounds down to the minimum.

Despite its reduced size, the Session is compatible with the existing mounts and accessories which are available for the other Hero shooters. Nevertheless, GoPro has created a new ball joint buckle mount that will be included in the shipping package.

This action camera employs WiFi and Bluetooth technologies, allowing mobile device users to control the Hero4 Session remotely using the GoPro App and Smart Remote applications.

GoPro will release the camera on July 12 for a price of $399.99 and you can pre-order it right now from Amazon.
