Samyang will announce three new XEEN-series lenses for cinematographers on August 10. The 24mm, 50mm, and 85mm T1.5 lenses will be launched in multiple mounts and will compete against high-end cine optics from Canon, Schneider Kreuznach, and Zeiss.
A third-party lens manufacturer that is appreciated by photographers and videographers alike for its products is Samyang. The company is also selling optics under the Rokinon moniker, optics that are praised for their price/performance ratio.
After launching a plethora of affordable lenses, it appears that the manufacturer is ready to go for the professional market with a trio of expensive optics. The rumor mill has obtained photos and details about the upcoming Samyang XEEN cine primes, which will be officially revealed to the public on August 10.
Samyang to reveal three XEEN-series cine prime lenses on August 10
The upcoming high-end Samsung XEEN lenses will be the 24mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5, and 85mm T1.5 cine primes.
As stated above, they will become official on or around August 10 for multiple camera mounts. According to the sources, they will be released for PL, Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony E, and Micro Four Thirds mounts.
The gossip talks are stating that the optics could be sold under the Rokinon brand in some markets. However, a specific release date has not been provided.
As for what the rumor mill says, these new cine primes will most likely become available by the end of 2015. Either way, it will all be revealed next week, so potential buyers do not have to wait a long time to find out the availability details.
Upcoming Samyang XEEN lenses to be more expensive than usual Samyang-branded optics
The Samyang XEEN 24mm, 50mm, and 85mm T1.5 cine lenses will be priced at $2,495 each. This price tag is way out of reach for the company’s usual customers, but then again, these are not usual products.
For about $2,500, cinematographers are getting a lens made out of metal with a 114mm front diameter and an 11-blade diaphragm. In total, each optic weighs about 2.5 pounds, an acceptable value for a higher-end cine lens.
It is worth noting that the weight might vary depending on the mount. However, there should not be major variations in this regard.
As for the leaked photos, we can see that the Samyang XEEN lenses will come packed with an aperture ring as well as with a ring to set the focus distance.
Stay tuned to Camyx for the official announcement!
