Nikon has officially announced that it has delayed the release date of the AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens, which was scheduled to become available in late August, until October 2015.

One of the most expected lenses by Nikon DSLR users was a stabilized replacement of the 24-70mm f/2.8 optic. The company unveiled the AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens in early August in order to replace the aforementioned version with the promise that the product will become available on August 27.

Just one week before the optic’s launch, the Japan-based manufacturer has confirmed that the lens has been delayed. The new and stabilized 24-70mm f/2.8 lens will now be released sometime in October 2015 instead of August 2015.

AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens release date delayed by Nikon

Nikon Japan has posted an interesting announcement today, one that will most likely be spread by the company’s worldwide websites. The recently-unveiled and sought-after AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens will no longer be released in late August, as initially planned.

This optic has been delayed officially for customer satisfaction purposes. The company says that the internal design of the lens is complex and that it needs more time to adjust the product in order to make sure that photographers will be pleased with its quality.

Nikon has postponed the launch of the AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens until October 2015.

Further development is needed, albeit the period is not so extended. Once Nikon makes the final adjustments, the lens will enter mass-production and will be sure to impress its owners.

The announcement does not state whether AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens is plagued by build or image quality issues. However, it is coming sometime in October 2015 and an exact release date will be given in the coming weeks.

Nikon’s new 24-70mm f/2.8 lens comes with many changes when compared to previous model

The new Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR standard zoom lens incorporates 20 elements divided in 16 groups with the back and front elements covered in fluorine.

This Nikkor optic is weathersealed, so dust and moisture should not trouble it, while its Nano Crystal Coat will take care of ghosting and flare.

An ASP/ED element has been added for the first time in history into a Nikon lens and it consists of an ED element and an aspherical element fused into a single unit.

It also features an electromagnetic diaphragm and a built-in Vibration Reduction mechanism. It weighs 1,070 grams or 2.36 lbs and it can still be pre-ordered at Amazon for about $2,400.

At the time of writing this article, most stores are still listing August 27 as the release date. However, it will be changed soon. Stay tuned for further details on this matter!
