Canon is once again rumored to be working on a stabilized 24-70mm f/2.8 lens in order to compete against the recently-announced Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens.

One of the most popular focal length range among photographers starts at 24mm and ends at 70mm. This range constitutes a standard zoom lens and it is usually found with a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8.

Nikon unveiled a 24-70mm lens with built-in image stabilization technology in early August 2015. The optic was supposed to be out in late August 2015, but the company was not satisfied with its quality and delayed it until October 2015.

Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens was announced in early August 2015.

This is good news for Canon, as EOS photographers do not have the possibility of purchasing a stabilized 24-70mm f/2.8 optic at this time. More good news is that such product is still in development and that it will definitely be released on the market at some point in the future.

Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lens in the works and long time away from its launch

Although the Nikon version has been delayed, Canon fans are not happy that they do not have a 24-70mm f/2.8 optic with an integrated stabilization system at their disposal. When the company had launched a small Mark II version, users understood that such product would have been too big.

Times are changing and now the EOS maker has the ability to create a compact as well as stabilized version of this zoom optic. According to a highly-reliable source, a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lens is in the works.

A stabilized Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens is being worked on and it is on its way.

For the time being, the insider is stating that there are up to three prototypes in development. The company still has not decided which version would best suit the needs of photographers, therefore it may take a while before we hear more about its internal design.

Nevertheless, one thing that will most likely be present in the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lens is the BR Optics element. This Technology was introduced in the EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens in August this year and decreases chromatic aberration.

There is some bad news, too. It appears that the release date of the lens is not as close as expected, despite pressure coming from EOS DSLR users as well as from Nikon. The source is claiming that this product is 18 months to two years away from being launched.

That is a lot of time, but you need to take the rumors with a grain of salt, as everything could change in the meantime. Either way, remember to keep an eye on Camyx for further information!
