Zeiss Otus 28mm f/1.4 lens slated for October 2015 unveiling

A new high-end Otus-series lens will be introduced by Zeiss this fall and it will consist of a 28mm f/1.4 optic with manual focusing for Canon EF and Nikon F DSLR cameras.

The rumor mill has previously claimed that the next Zeiss Otus optic will be announced in September. Additionally, it has been said that the product in question will offer a focal length of 24 or 25mm with a maximum aperture of f/1.4.

New information has just been leaked and it is a tad different from what we have learned in the past. A trusted source, who has been right on numerous occasions, says that the lens will be a 28mm prime, while the aperture has not been confirmed.

The latest details are saying that the Germany-based manufacturer will not go as wide as previously thought. The new Otus-series lens will have a fixed focal length of 28mm, as opposed to 24 or 25mm.

Zeiss will add the 28mm f/1.4 lens to its Otus series containing the 55mm and 85mm f/1.4 primes.

The maximum aperture has not been confirmed, but speculation says that it will most likely sit at f/1.4, just like in the other two models in the line-up: the 55mm and 85mm optics.

It was supposed to become official by the end of September 2015. However, it seems like the product has been delayed for some reason and now it is coming this October.

The 55mm f/1.4 was unveiled in October 2013, the 85mm f/1.4 in September 2014, so it makes sense for the next model to show up in October 2015.

It will be a large product, trusted source says

The specs of the Zeiss Otus 28mm f/1.4 lens have not been leaked either. Nevertheless, it has been revealed that the optic will be a large product.

The reason for that could be the internal design, which will undoubtedly be very complex in order to offer the best possible image quality. Both existing Otus lenses have received praises for their image quality, so there are no reasons to believe that it will be any different this time.

A focus distance scale and a manual focus ring will be available on the lens. Either way, the product will be very expensive and will be available only in Canon EF and Nikon F mounts.

For the time being, the 55mm f/1.4 Otus Distagon T* version costs about $3,525 at Amazon, while the 85mm f/1.4 Otus Apo Planar T* can be bought for about $4,115 at the same store.
