Sigma Water Repellent Ceramic Protector announced

Sigma has officially unveiled the first protective lens filter in the world to be made of Clear Glass Ceramic, a material that is both water-repellent and scratch-resistant.

One of the most beloved companies in the digital imaging industry is Sigma. The manufacturer is constantly creating amazing lenses that have decent prices, while launching unique cameras.

Sigma is also a company that launching a lot of firsts for this market and it has done it again. The world’s first protective lens filter made of Clear Glass Ceramic has just been announced and it is said to be about 10 times stronger than regular lens filters.

Sigma introduces world’s first protective lens filter made of Clear Glass Ceramic

It is called the Sigma Water Repellent Ceramic Protector. This product is a lens filter that is made of Clear Glass Ceramic, a new material which has never been used in a protective filter.

The accessory will offer protection to people who value their lenses thanks to the aforementioned material. Among others, the Clear Glass Ceramic is resistant to shocks and scratches.

According to the company, it is up to 10 times tougher than normal filters as well as three times stronger than filters which have been chemically strengthened.

Moreover, the filter comes with a special coating that is capable of repelling water, oil and dust. In addition to this, it will also allow users to easily remove fingerprints.

Sigma Water Repellent Ceramic Protector does not reduce image quality

The world’s first protective lens filter made of Clear Glass Ceramic delivers a high transmittance and it is said to reduce ghosting and flare. As a result, the Sigma Water Repellent Ceramic Protector will not have a negative impact on image quality.

The list of benefits does not end here. The Japanese manufacturer says that this accessory is about 30% lighter and about 50% thinner compared to Sigma’s previous lens filters.

Sigma Water Repellent Ceramic Protector is the first lens filter of its kind and it is resistant to oil, scratches, and fingerprints among others.

In the announcement, Sigma added the fact its protective lens was designed under its Global Vision rules, which are valid for its current lens line-up. The Ceramic Protector will become available for lenses with filter threads ranging from 67mm to 105mm.

For the time being, the Japan-based company has not announced any availability details. However, they should be confirmed soon, therefore it would be best to stay close to Camyx to find out the release date and price details of the new Sigma Water Repellent Ceramic Protector.
