Canon is expected to announce a couple of new DSLRs around the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2016. The two models mentioned in the rumor mill are the EOS Rebel SL2 and the 80D.

After introducing the flagship EOS 1D X Mark II, Canon is ready to move on to other things. This time, the Japanese manufacturer will focus its attention on the lower-end part of the market. There, users will find the EOS Rebel SL1 and the 70D, two rather different types of cameras, but which have attracted consumers’ interest either way.

It seems like both of the aforementioned DSLRs might be getting replacements in the neighboring future. Canon EOS Rebel SL2 and 80D are allegedly coming sometime around CP+ 2016, after failing to meet their previous deadlines.

Canon EOS Rebel SL2 announcement date and specs leaked

The beginning of 2016 will prove to be fruitful to Canon fans. If the EOS 1D X Mark II was not enough, then maybe the upcoming duo will make things sweeter. The first mention is referring to the EOS Rebel SL2, which will allegedly become official sometime at the end of February.

Canon EOS Rebel SL1 will be replaced by the EOS Rebel SL2 by the end of February 2016, source says.

An exact announcement date for the DSLR has not been provided. However, there is a chance that the device is coming slightly before the CP+ 2016 show, that will open its doors to visitors on February 25.

This means that it would not be a surprise to see the Canon EOS Rebel SL2 launched Monday, February 22. Its specs are said to include a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor (borrowed from the 750D / Rebel T6i and 760D / Rebel T6s), DIGIC 6 image processor, 19-point autofocus system with Hybrid CMOS AF III technology, and a new battery with wireless charging support.

The new unit could be tinier than the older one, meaning that it will become the world’s smallest DSLR. More details about the camera are coming soon, so stay tuned!

Canon 80D to replace 70D in the near future, too

The other DSLR that might make an appearance by the end of this month is the Canon 80D. It would replace the EOS 70D, also known as the first camera with Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology.

The Tokyo-based company launched the EOS 70D in 2013, so this would be the right year to replace it, while the CP+ 2016 show would be the right place to do it. Multiple sources are talking about its imminent arrival, but there are not many details available.

A piece of information that is spreading around the web is that the DSLR will feature some kind of a new sensor technology. Whatever it is, we are likely to hear more about it towards the end of this month.
