Fujifilm is rumored to be developing a 23mm wide-angle prime lens with a maximum aperture of f/2 that will be announced by the end of 2016.

Mirrorless cameras are actually selling well and analysts are predicting that sales will grow within the next few years. Meanwhile, compacts are struggling, while DSLRs are standing at similar levels.

A big part in creating a successful series is played by the lens line-up. One company which is actively improving its offer is Fujifilm. Multiple new optics are expected to be announced by the end of this year, after the XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR telephoto zoom lens has been introduced in early 2016.

Besides the products listed on the official roadmap, there are other units in development and trusted sources are stating that one of them is the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2 lens.

Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2 lens is allegedly in the works

One of the advantages that mirrorless cameras has over DSLRs is their size. MILCs are smaller and lighter than heavy, bulky SLRs, albeit some optics tend to be quite big. However, there are some small lenses on the market and we can mention the Fujinon XF 35mm f/2 R WR with a full-frame equivalent of approximately 53mm.

As expected, X-mount mirrorless camera users are demanding more such optics. The company’s representatives have issued an official response in the past, stating that they are exploring all options and that other compact lenses might be released in the future.

The rumor mill is not done with bold claims. An interesting bit of information includes the announcement date of the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2 lens. It appears that the product will be revealed in 2016.

Furthermore, the lens will actually become official before other products that have been added to the X-mount roadmap by the company. The gossip talks are specifically mentioning the XF 120mm optic.

As usual, take these details with a grain of salt and do not jump to conclusions for the time being!
