Sigma will release the 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary prime lens for mirrorless cameras in March 2016.

The company has usually released optics for MILCs with a maximum aperture of f/2.8, but now it has decided to go faster. The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens is the chosen one and it comes with a really bright aperture.

When mounted on Sony E-mount cameras, it will offer a full-frame equivalent of 45mm. Additionally, when used in combination with a Micro Four Thirds camera, its full-frame equivalent will stand at 60mm.

The manufacturer says that this is the first affordable f/1.4 lens for mirrorless cameras, as the product will be released for a price of $339. The optic will begin shipping sometime around mid-March, Sigma confirmed.

Sigma’s latest Contemporary optic is a compact, lightweight product

Its superior image quality is provided by an internal design that consists of nine elements in seven groups. The configuration includes an aspherical element as well as a double-sided apsherical element.

The autofocus system includes a stepping motor that delivers smooth, quick autofocusing even when recording videos. As expected, the focusing method is internal, therefore the front element does not move when performing such actions.

Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens features a minimum focusing distance of 30 centimeters, whereas the maximum magnification rate stands at 0.14x.

This product measures about 73mm / 2.87 inches in length and 65mm / 2.56 inches in diameter. The filter thread has a size of 52mm and the total weight stands at 265 grams / 0.58 lbs.
