Fujifilm is rumored to have delayed the launch of the XF 120mm f/2.8 R macro lens towards the end of 2016, after being scheduled to become available sometime during this summer.

One of the X-mount lenses added to the official roadmap by Fujifilm is the XF 120mm f/2.8 R macro lens. It has been confirmed since early 2015 and has been scheduled for release in the middle of 2016.

A leaked roadmap has also showed that this telephoto prime will come packed with built-in optical image stabilization technology and that it will be weathersealed. These are just some of the reasons why it is a sought-after product.

Unfortunately, the rumor mill brings some bad news. It appears that the optic has been delayed and it will be released sometime during the fourth quarter of the year.

Fujifilm might have delayed the launch of the XF 120mm f/2.8 R macro lens

Photographers users X-mount mirrorless cameras are demanding more telephoto lenses from Fujifilm. The company has repeatedly said that it will address this shortcoming and one step is the XF 120mm f/2.8 R macro unit.

The roadmap showed that the XF 120mm f/2.8 R OIS WR Macro lens will come in mid-2016, but the rumor mill says it will be released in late 2016.

Although the development of the product has been confirmed, it does not mean that it will be released soon. Until the official announcement, people should not get their hopes too high, as delays may occur.

This is exactly what has happened right now, if these gossip talks turn out to be true. The information is said to come from a trusted source, who leaked spot-on details in the past. As a result, potential customers should now expect to buy the lens sometime in Q4 2016.

It could prove to be an important lens for the X-mount line-up, so Fuji might have decided to reveal it at Photokina 2016. The world’s biggest digital imaging event is back in September this year.

When it becomes available, the lens will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of approximately 180mm.

XF 23mm f/2 lens might be released before the XF 120mm f/2.8 R macro

In mid-February, the rumor mill claimed that Fuji is working on an XF 23mm f/2 lens. It is supposed to be a compact and lightweight optic, just like the XF 35mm f/2 model.

Sources said that the lens will become official this year and that it will be revealed before some optics that are available on the roadmap.

The previous rumors are backing up the newer ones, therefore it is possible that the XF 120mm f/2.8 R macro has been delayed because Fujifilm has decided to concentrate its efforts on the XF 23mm f/2 wide-angle prime.
