A high-end Canon 4K full-frame mirrorless camera is rumored to be in development and to be announced along with two other EOS-series MILCs in anticipation of the Photokina 2016 event.

Mirrorless camera sales are recovering in some markets and analysts are saying that this is happening thanks to Sony’s FE-mount full-frame units, which have been welcomed by photographers around the world.

Although they are topping sales charts when it comes to compacts and DSLRs, Canon and Nikon are struggling in the mirrorless segment. Insiders have leaked information about plans to launch premium MILCs by both these companies, but nothing has materialized so far.

There might be a change in the wind at Photokina 2016. A trusted source is reporting that a Canon 4K full-frame mirrorless camera will become official along with two other MILCs and that they will likely show up in time for the world’s largest digital imaging event this September.

Canon 4K full-frame mirrorless camera rumored to become official at the Photokina 2016 event

Some photographers are switching from a DSLR to a mirrorless camera and many others would consider following the same path if Canon were to introduce a shooter worthy of going through all the trouble.

The rumor mill is claiming that a Canon 4K full-frame mirrorless camera in is the works. It will be aimed at prosumers, meaning that it will have high-end features, but will be decently priced.

The EOS M10 is Canon’s latest mirrorless camera, but it is not the pro-grade one that the company’s fans are looking for.

Sources say that the Japan-based company is actually working on three new MILCs. One of them is said to be a full-frame shooter, as stated above, while the other two are APS-C-sized units. It seems like only one will record videos at 4K resolution and the full-frame device is the chosen one when it comes to videography.

However, it is not all roses. There is a chance that the device will not be a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, instead being a compact shooter, à la Sony RX1 and Leica Q, which have fixed lenses.

This would be a surprising move from Canon, as the device in question would not exactly be a mirrorless camera and it cannot be marketed as such. Either way, three units are on their way and this could create confusion among the leaksters regarding the specifications.

No matter what is coming, there is a strong chance that we will not see it or them sooner than late August or early September. Photokina 2016 begins in mid-September and the products are expected to become official as part of this event, so they will be announced shortly before its start.

There are still many doubts regarding sensor size, but new Canon EOS MILCs are surely coming

The rumors about a professional Canon mirrorless camera have been circulating on the web for many years. Just like with all rumors, this information must be taken with a pinch of salt. One could say that it is more important in this case because a lot of people have been disappointed by past gossip talks not becoming a reality.

Moreover, although sources are stating a full-frame model is coming, the trusted source has refrained from giving such assurances this time. There is a long time until this year’s edition of Photokina and things may still change in the meantime.

We will monitor this situation closely and we will let you known as soon as something new shows up on the web. Stay tuned to Camyx!
