Zeiss has announced a new Batis-series lens with autofocus support for full-frame mirrorless cameras made by Sony. The Batis 18mm f/2.8 wide-angle prime was rumored in recent times, but now it is finally official.

Photographers using Sony FE-mount mirrorless cameras will be happy to hear that Zeiss has unveiled its widest prime lens for these shooters. The brand new Batis 18mm f/2.8 fixed focal length optic features an OLED screen, just like its siblings.

The first two units are the 25mm f/2 and the 85mm f/1.8, which are said to deliver a very high image quality in combination with Sony’s impressive mirrorless cameras with full-frame sensors.

Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8 lens comes packed with an OLED screen that informs users about focus distance and depth of field.

The company praises the autofocus system of the optic, which is said to be silent, smooth, and fast. Additionally, the OLED screen is available on this product, just like it is on its siblings. The information offered to the users consists of depth of field and the focus distance.

Should users decide that autofocus is not for them, there is a rubberized focus ring on the lens, thus allowing them to focus manually or to make small adjustments after autofocusing.

This product is weathersealed, therefore it can be used in rough environments. The weather seals will provide protection against dust and moisture.
