Sigma is rumored to announce a new Art-series prime lens with a focal length of 85mm and a maximum aperture of f/1.4 at the Photokina 2016 show.

In recent times it was discovered that Sigma stopped the production of the 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM lens. The information came from a well-known Japan-based store, so it was considered reliable.

The result was a lot of people keeping their fingers crossed for the announcement of a Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art lens, as a replacement is definitely needed. Well, trusted sources have been able to confirm that the product is in testing and that it will probably show up in time for Photokina 2016.

Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art lens scheduled to be unveiled at Photokina 2016

The Japanese manufacturer is the creator of one of the best series of lenses in the world. The Art line-up is filled with high-end optics that can handle big-megapixel sensors even at lower prices than their main rivals. According to reliable insiders, the next addition to the family will be the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art lens.

Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM lens will be replaced by an Art version by the end of this year.

The new version will succeed the 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM telephoto prime, which is still available on the market. However, it has reportedly been discontinued by the Kawasaki-based company and stores will run out of stock sooner rather than later.

As for the next-generation version, it will be a part of the Art series and will be unveiled shortly before Photokina 2016. This means that it is coming sometime in very late August or early September.

Its specifications, except for focal length and maximum aperture, are unknown for the time being. As far as speculation goes, an improved image quality is expected, even at the brightest diaphragms, along with better autofocusing.

Select photographers are already testing the upcoming 85mm f/1.4 Art prime

Sources are reporting that the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art lens is already in on-field testing. This means that a few select photographers have got their hands on it and will give the company some advice about what needs improvement.

Another expectation from this optic is compatibility with the USB Dock. Individual users will be able to make minor tweaks to their lens in order to beter suit their needs and shooting styles.

It is too early to speak about its price tag. However, Sigma will have to sell it for less than Nikon’s 85mm f/1.4 and Canon’s 85mm f/1.2 costs. The former is priced at about $1,600, while the latter at $1,900.

More details will surely turn up on the web, which means that you must stay tuned to Camyx!
