The X-mount lens line-up will grow exponentially in the near future, as Fujifilm is rumored to be planning the introduction of an XF 8-16mm f/2.8 WR wide-angle zoom lens.

There are a lot of gossip talks surrounding Fujifilm’s plans for late 2016 – early 2017. The latest in a long series of rumored optics is XF 8-16mm f/2.8 WR, a wide-angle zoom that will be weathersealed.

As the Photokina 2016 event is getting closer, we are expecting to witness the increase of gossip talks. The X-mount maker is once again in the limelight, so here is what we have learned so far about its upcoming intentions!

Fujifilm XF 8-16mm f/2.8 WR lens rumored to be in the company’s plans for the future

People are always talking about the lack of XF-series optics in the telephoto department, but they seem to forget about the wide-angle one. The Japanese company can do a lot better in this segment and it seems like one step will be the Fujifilm XF 8-16mm f/2.8 WR lens.

This is the official Fujifilm X-mount lens roadmap. It will grow a lot bigger within the next 12 months.

The source who leaked the information confirmed that the product will be weathersealed. This means that it will be great in combination with the X-T1 or the upcoming X-T2 mirrorless cameras.

It will be designed for landscape, architecture, and interior photography. Its aperture will be fairly bright, therefore this product will be quite a versatile lens. It is worth noting that it will provide a full-frame focal length equivalent of about 12-24mm.

The date for its announcement has not been provided. However, it is not expected to become official soon, thus we will not be seeing it at Photokina 2016. Fuji might confirm its development in late 2016 and, if it does, then it will become available sometime in 2017.

Fuji is also working on an XF 50mm f/2 R prime

We already know that the XF 35mm f/2 R is official, while the XF 23mm f/2 R is coming at Photokina 2016. Nevertheless, another f/2 prime is being worked on, one with a 50mm focal length.

For the time being, the product is in the early stages of development, so we have to say, once again, that this product is nowhere near its launch. At the earliest, it might be released in 2017, but delays happen, especially when it comes to Fujifilm.

Since the 35mm f/2 version was so well-received by users, the company will definitely create a line-up that follows the ideas applied to this optic. Fuji is producing quite the interesting X-mount line-up which offers top-notch image quality, as the rise of mirrorless cameras continues. Make sure to check back for future details!
