Panasonic is rumored to introduce a replacement to the LX100 compact camera, likely called LX200, at the Photokina 2016 event, while the GH5 mirrorless camera is also expected to make an official appearance.

The world’s biggest digital imaging show, Photokina, will open the doors to its 2016 edition towards the end of September. The event will be filled with newcomers, including products from Panasonic, sources said.

One of the recently-mentioned cameras consists of the LX100 replacement. People familiar with the matter are reporting that we are likely to see a Panasonic LX200 or whatever it will be called at Photokina 2016.

Panasonic LX200 allegedly coming at Photokina 2016

Photokina 2014 has brought us the LX100, a compact camera with a Micro Four Thirds sensor. It was the first of its kind and it offer built-in WiFi along with 4K video recording capabilities.

Panasonic LX100 will be replaced by the LX200 at this year’s Photokina trade fair.

In 2016, its successor will be revealed. The most likely name for this device is believed to be Panasonic LX200. On the other hand, its specifications are unknown at this point, as it seems like the information leaked earlier this year was false.

As this is a premium camera, a major upgrade in specs is expected to happen. The sensor is as 12.8-megapixel unit, while the lens delivers a full-frame equivalent of 24-75mm. If the focal range changes, then we would not be surprised if the maximum aperture changes, too. The current Leica DC Vario-Summilux lens has a maximum aperture of f/1.7-2.8.

During the past couple of years, the price of the LX100 dropped from about $900 down to about $700. A replacement is definitely near, so expect it to see it at Photokina this year.

Same 16MP sensor found in GX85 / GX80 for the upcoming GH5

Panasonic is probably going to unveil another premium device around Photokina 2016. However, this one is actually its flagship product: Lumix GH5. Until its introduction, some sources have made some claims about its specifications.

Many people hope that the Japan-based company will add a 20-megapixel sensor into the product, which will be capable of shooting 6K or 8K videos. Unfortunately, it seems like the camera will feature the same 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor made by Sony.

This sensor is already available in the Lumix GX85 / GX80 mirrorless cameras and it only handles 4K videos. The source said that the sensor will offer improved performance over the GX85 / GX80 duo, so there is still hope for higher-quality movie recording.

The improvements will consist out of a better image processor as well as enhanced cooling. We will monitor the situation closely and we will let you know as anything new surfaces on the web, therefore we are inviting you to stay tuned!
