Canon has not forgotten all about the duo and it has released a pair of firmware updates to prove it. Although the 1D Mark IV and 1Ds Mark III have been discontinued, photographers who have spent a lot of money on them will continue to receive support, especially when the Japanese manufacturer releases higher-end lenses.

As a result, the Canon 1D Mark IV firmware update 1.1.3 and the Canon 1Ds Mark III firmware update 1.2.2 have been released for download. The upgrades can be downloaded for free and they are accessible worldwide.

The changelogs of the two firmware updates are almost identical. The EOS 1Ds Mark III gains support for the Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L USM Extender 1.4x lens, just like the EOS 1D Mark IV.

The Japanese company says that the updates are necessary, in order to allow the “center AF point to autofocus” when using the aforementioned lens that features a maximum aperture of f/8.

While working on the EOS 1D Mark IV update, Canon has discovered that a bug has been troubling photographers for quite a while. The company has decided to fix the bug that caused the camera to capture anomalous photos in continuous shooting mode when taking images at RAW or RAW+JPEG qualities.
