Canon 5D Mark IV rumors hinting at further 5D-series split

Canon will release the EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR camera after the EOS 1D X Mark II, reports are suggesting. It appears that the fate of the 5D series has not been determined, yet, as the rumor mill has tabled a few possible futures for this line-up.

We have recently confirmed that the Canon will reveal the replacement to the 1D X flagship sometime in early spring 2016. Beside this shooter, the Japan-based company is planning to launch another high-profile camera: the successor to the 5D Mark III.

In the past, inside sources have claimed that the 5D Mark IV might be split in up to three different models: a big-megapixel unit built for shooting stills, a lower-megapixel version with 4K video recording, and a different version built for videographers thanks to its Cinema EOS-like features.

As some gossip talks suggested that the products will be introduced by the end of 2015, the veracity of these details remains doubtful. However, these Canon 5D Mark IV rumors will not go away and they are once again including information about an eventual split of the 5D series.

Canon 5D Mark IV will come after the 1D X Mark II and will have more megapixels

First of all, there is no way that the 5D Mark IV will be unveiled before the 1D X Mark II. The mid-range DSLR will become official after the flagship. Nevertheless, it may still show up during next spring, just like its bigger sibling.

Canon’s upcoming 5D Mark III replacement will feature more megapixels than the 1D X Mark II.

When it finally gets announced, the 5D Mark III replacement is set to have a full-frame image sensor with more megapixels than the 1D X Mark II, a trusted source said.

We have to remind you the fact that the high-end EOS DSLR will have a 24-megapixel sensor, so it would not be a surprise to see the 5D Mark IV bearing a 28-megapixel sensor, just like we heard in the past.

Unfortunately for videographers, 4K video recording has been ruled out of this camera. This time, leaksters are not saying that they have not heard anything about it, instead they are claiming that this feature will not be present in the upcoming DSLR.

Latest Canon 5D Mark IV rumors suggest that a 5D-series might split even more

One of the reasons why the 5D Mark IV is coming after the 1D X Mark II is because the former’s fate has not been decided, yet. As stated above, the 5D series might be split even more, which is something that started after the 5DS and 5DS R announcements.

The Japanese manufacturer still needs to decide what happens next, but, as things stand, there could be a 5D Mark IV with 28 or more megapixels as well as a 20 or lower megapixel version optimized for low-light photography.

It is worth noting that while there are hints of a further split, it seems like the second model will not be a so-called 5DC that would come with top videography features. Once again, this sounds like bad news for videographers.
