After years of rumors and speculation, Canon finally will announce a big-megapixel camera in early February. The first photo and the specs of the so-called EOS 5Ds have been leaked on the web before the DSLR’s launch event.

Update (February 6): Canon has taken the wraps off of the 5DS and 5DSR big-megapixel DSLR cameras!

A lot of time has passed since the first gossip talks suggested that Canon was developing a big-megapixel DSLR. The dreams of the company’s fans will turn into a reality next week on February 6, when the 5Ds is set to be announced.

The camera has been rumored to employ a sensor of about 50 megapixels and it will be most likely a 53 megapixel model. Well, the Canon 5Ds specs list has been leaked and it seems like the shooter will employ a 50.6-megapixel sensor.

Canon 5Ds specs leaked: the DSLR will feature a 50.6-megapixel sensor

A highly-trusted source has managed to leak the specifications and the first photo of the EOS 5Ds. This will become the company’s high-resolution DSLR, which will compete against the Nikon D810.

The 5Ds will offer a 50.6-megapixel full frame CMOS sensor with an anti-aliasing filter. It will be powered by two DIGIC 6 image processors and will be capable of capturing up to 5fps in continuous shooting mode.

The leaked Canon 5Ds specs reveal that the DSLR will employ a 150,000-pixel RGB and IR photometry sensor, 61-point autofocus system with EOS iTR support, and 1.3x / 1.6x crop modes.

New Picture Style, called Fine Detail, to be available in the Canon 5Ds

Its body will be made out of magnesium alloy and will be resistant to water droplets and dust. The EOS 5Ds will offer an ISO range between 100 and 6,400.

The rumor mill says that a new Picture Style has been added to the list and that it will be called Fine Detail. This will come in handy for photographers who will want to capture photos as sharp as possible.

A Quick Control Screen will be available, too, and it will be customizable. Among other features, the Canon 5Ds will come with anti-flicker technology, a time-lapse movie mode, an interval timer, and Bulb mode.

Canon 5Ds R is the version without an anti-aliasing filter

Two units will be revealed during the February 6 event. The name of the other high-resolution DSLR has been revealed, too. It seems like it will go by the name of Canon 5Ds R.

There will be only one difference between the 5Ds R and the 5Ds, as the former will not have an anti-aliasing filter like the latter.

Canon has decided to go with Nikon’s first take on the big-megapixel market. The D800 features an AA filter, while the D800E comes without such filter.

The same source has said that the EOS M3 mirrorless camera is real and is coming, too. No specs were provided, but a different source revealed them recently. Stay tuned to Camyx for more!
