A Canon 6D firmware update is being prepared by the Japanese company and should be released sometime during the second quarter of 2013.

The Canon EOS 6D has been announced a day earlier than Photokina 2012. Even though it has been officially revealed in September, the camera hit retail markets in late November 2012.

The 6D is a good entry-level DSLR. Its an affordable full-frame solution, which has been welcomed by photographers. However, there are things that still need fixing and some of them will allegedly be repaired by Canon by the end of the first half of 2013.

Canon 6D firmware update coming in Q2 2013

It is the lightest and smallest full-frame DSLR in Canon portfolio. Since all cameras are affected by bugs or have minor inconsistencies, the Japanese company has been preparing a firmware update for the EOS 6D to correct some issues.

The next update for the full-frame DSLR camera will come packed with at least two new additions, including f/8 autofocus support at center point and AI servo indicator.

An inside source has confirmed that the upcoming firmware update will be released sometime in late May or early June, if everything will go according to plan, therefore Canon EOS 6D owners should not hold their breath over it.

Canon officially updating other cameras soon

The company did not announce any plans to release a software upgrade for the EOS 6D, unlike in the case of both the 5D Mark III and 1D X. These two cameras will have their slow focus issue fixed when being used in combination with the Speedlight AF assist lamp.

Additionally, 1D C users will also receive a firmware update by the end of the summer. The 1D C update will come packed with ultra HD 4k video recording support at 25 frames per second, up from the current 4k video at 23.976fps value.

Anyway, the Canon EOS 6D update changelog will consist of many other fixes and improvements, said the source. The new firmware should provide an improved user experience, meaning that it should be installed as soon as it becomes available.

The 6D DSLR camera features a 20.2-megapixel image sensor, built-in GPS and WiFi, 11 autofocus points, 3-inch LED screen, 4.5fps in continuous shooting mode, maximum ISO of 25,600 (expandable up to 102,400 with the integrated settings), and a shutter speed range between 1/4000th of a second and 30 seconds.
