Canon is rumored to announce a replacement for the EOS 60D DSLR camera, called EOS 70D, on March 21 or March 22, 2013.

The Canon EOS 60D has been officially unveiled in August 2010. More than two years have passed since the camera’s introduction and consumers have started to grow impatient.

Canon Czech Republic sent invitations for a press event on March 21. It is said that a “product announcement” will occur, while the rumor mill is suggesting that the EOS 70D will finally make an official appearance.

Canon 70D to be announced on March 21 or 22? That is the question!

Their prayers may finally be answered by the end of March, as the sought-after Canon 70D is rumored to be announced during events across the world in two weeks time.

Sources familiar with the matter have confirmed that the Japan-based company will hold a product announcement event on March 22. For the time being, it is unknown what Canon will announce on March 22, but most details point to a new DSLR, which will act as a replacement for the EOS 60D, a two-and-a-half years old camera.

A different source has leaked a press invitation sent by the Czech Republic division of Canon. The invitation says that the company will hold an event on March 21, 2013.

Most camera manufacturers hold press events around the world when they unveil a new product. However, the first announcement usually comes from the United States, therefore the EOS 60D replacement may become official in the US one or two days before March 21.

Canon likes to reveal new products on Thursdays and Fridays, so this is why the most likely dates are March 19 or March 22. Anyway we cannot jump into conclusions because the only confirmed date is March 21.

“Major improvement” over the EOS 60D

The rumor mill says that the Canon 70D will be a major improvement over the EOS 60D, with an entirely new image sensor and technologies that will allow photographers to capture high-quality images.

The Canon 60D features an 18.1-megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor, DIGIC 4 image processor, full HD 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second, 3-inch 1,040k-dot articulated LCD screen, 5.3 frames per second in burst mode, SD / SDHC / SDXC memory card slot, 9 cross-type autofocus points, and an ISO range between 100 and 6,400.
