Sources familiar with the matter have revealed new information about the Canon 7D Mark II, which is now believed to replace the 7D in Q2 2014.

At the beginning of 2013, the rumor mill began talking about the Canon 7D replacement. The DSLR was supposed to become available by now under the name of 7D Mark II. Some retailers had even put some placeholders on their websites with the EOS 8D tag.

Regardless of the final name, the 7D successor is still not available on the market and it has not even been announced.

Apparently, Canon feels that there are no reasons to launch this camera, yet. The 7D is doing better than its biggest rival, Nikon D300S. The competition has not launched a new camera, despite the fact that it is fighting a losing battle, so the EOS maker just keeps minding its own business.

Canon planning to release 7D Mark II camera in Q2 2014

Thankfully, this will not go on forever and a new high-end APS-C camera should be announced and released soon. According to the rumor mill, the Canon 7D Mark II release date is Q2 2014.

In more recent times, sources were reporting that the 7DMK2 would become official and be released very early next year. However, it seems like this is no longer the case as the DSLR will go live in the second quarter of 2014.

Meanwhile, photographers can purchase the EOS 7D at Amazon for a price of $1,339.

Canon 7D Mark II will not feature the same 70D sensor

People who are looking to buy a new camera to replace an older one are probably curious to find out more about the Canon 7D Mark II specs.

For them, inside sources are reporting that the DSLR camera will not feature the same sensor as the EOS 70D. The 20.2-megapixel model will probably be replaced by a higher-megapixel version, though we should not rule out the Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology for the time being.

Improved video capabilities to make their way into 7D’s successor

One thing that will certainly be improved in the 7DMK2 is its video capabilities.

Canon has made a lot of progress in the movie recording department in recent times and this trend will likely continue with the 7D replacement.

One thing that would help is the Dual Pixel feature, so now we will have to get a confirmation from the rumor mill.
